A BIG thank you to Naval Station Great Lakes and Navy Region Midwest!

On the evening of November 5, Commander, Navy Region Midwest, Rear Admiral Anthony Gaiani spoke about the Navy’s efforts globally as well as within the Navy Region Midwest.  He discussed how best private industry can support them.  Members were able to engage him in candid dialogue after his speech.  Rear Admiral Gaiani reminded NDIA industry members to "Continue to make the warfighter as well prepared as possible by giving them what they need; when they need it.”

The Navy Region Midwest encompasses a 16-state area including North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Nebraska, Iowa, Oklahoma, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kansas, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee and Missouri. They provide coordination of base operating support functions for operating forces throughout the region including providing expertise in areas such as facilities and land space management, exercise coordination, housing, environmental, security, family services, port services, air services, bachelor quarters and logistical concerns for the thousands of Navy members and their families in the area.

On the morning of November 6, NDIA members were privileged to witness the final transformation of recruits into 920 highly skilled, technically proficient, disciplined and motivated Sailors that defend our country.   This was brought home even more so because we had a great opportunity to get to know several sailors the evening before and learned what each of them does to support our country.

From its founding in 1911, Naval Station Great Lakes has maintained its position as the Navy's largest training facility with more than 25,000 military and civilian personnel working, training, and living here. The current Recruit Training Command is under-going a dramatic recapitalization program that has created a premiere training environment that is unmatched. Millions of dollars have been spent on modern barracks, dining facilities, classrooms and office buildings. Fifteen service schools are sited at Great Lakes. All Navy recruits are now trained here, both men and women. Naval Station Great Lakes truly is a place of challenge and excitement.
